Army of Acetic Acid

This is a costume grown out of SCOBY bacteria with the SCOBY lamp installed at the exhibition 'Entity' with the Hive collective at 13 Bigg Market, Newcastle Upon Tyne, (2024).

It was also worn by Lottie in a performance 'Army of Acetic Acid' responding to Alice Hagan's spoken word. They relate the process of growing SCOBY bacteria, an inherently maternal process, to the slow 'fermentation' of difficult and unexpressed emotion in women which is passed through generations. It was accompanied by the sound of the SCOBY growing in real time, (2024).
